If you’re an avid birder or wildlife enthusiast, you know that capturing the perfect shot of your subject can be a challenge. Enter digiscoping – a method of taking photos or videos through a spotting scope or binoculars using your smartphone. With digiscoping, you can capture stunning, high-quality images and videos of distant wildlife without investing in expensive camera equipment.
Digiscoping is a great way to take your nature photography to the next level, and it’s easier than you might think. Here are a few tips to get you started:
1. Choose the right equipment
To get started with digiscoping, you’ll need a spotting scope or binoculars and a smartphone adapter. Phone Skope offers a range of adapters that are compatible with most smartphones and optics brands. Once you have your adapter, make sure your phone is securely attached to your spotting scope or binoculars.
2. Get stable
Stability is key when it comes to digiscoping. Even the slightest movement can blur your image, so make sure your spotting scope or binoculars are securely mounted on a tripod or other stable surface. You can also use a stabilizing device like a shoulder mount or monopod to help keep your camera steady.
3. Adjust your focus
To get the best image possible, you’ll need to adjust the focus on both your spotting scope or binoculars and your smartphone camera. Start by adjusting the focus on your spotting scope or binoculars until you have a clear image of your subject. Then, adjust your smartphone camera focus until the image is sharp and clear.
4. Practice, practice, practice
Like any type of photography, digiscoping takes practice. Take your equipment out into the field and experiment with different settings and angles. Try taking photos and videos of different subjects in varying lighting conditions to see what works best.
With a little bit of practice and the right equipment, digiscoping can open up a whole new world of nature photography opportunities. So get out there and start capturing those amazing shots!

Hello, I am from the UK, I can see some manufacturers offer adaptors for the sdl3 opticron eye pieces, but I am just about to purchase an sdl4. Will the sdl3 adaptor work with the sdl4 eye piece?
Thanks
Joe
Hi joe, I do not see that we have measured the SDL4 eye piece. We will work on getting our hands on the eyepiece to fit it. We do have an option for custom optic adapters, we just need the outside diameter of the eyecup and we can build an optic adapter that fits.
Thanks,
Tanner
